Those in the stunt community will know how frustrating it is to rotate a performer on wires in a 2D or 3D environment, to either spin full circle or, gently ‘bank’ left or right as if swimming or floating in space. I wanted the ability to control which direction and at what speed to rotate the performance without having to program and without having to use taglines to motivate rotation. I’ve developed a simple ‘plug ‘n’ play remote controlled spin-rig. Weighing just 22kg and with up to 60hrs on one charge. Having completed its conformity tests which included independent verification of a 1,000kg lift test, giving it a safety factor of 10:1 in accordance with LOLER regulations. Rigginology’s spin rig had its first day on set and it was a huge success. I was able to rotate and control the speed of the performance in either direction, and in real time, as per the directors’ requirements. No need to paint out tag lines or constant resets because the speed wasn’t right, or the momentum faded before the end of the shot. The Rigginology remote spin-rig will now be added to the stunt rigging package.
